Nvidia News: China Could Reopen Chip Sales as ByteDance Eyes 1M

Wichtige Erkenntnisse

  • Nvidia news centered on a possible reopening of China chip sales.
  • ByteDance reportedly considered buying about 1 million RTX Pro 5500 chips.
  • NVDA stock closed at $225.07 on Sept. 25.

Nvidia news turned toward China after Beijing reportedly signaled possible approvals for new Nvidia chip purchases. The Information berichtete ByteDance and Alibaba were among companies asked about planned RTX Pro 5500 orders.

The report mattered because Nvidia’s China data-center business remained constrained by policy on both sides. Approved purchases could reopen limited access to a market Nvidia excluded from its latest data-center forecast.

Nvidia News Centers on Possible China Approval

The Information reported China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology contacted several domestic technology companies. Officials reportedly asked how many RTX Pro 5500 chips companies wanted and their planned uses.

The publication said officials had indicated approvals were coming, citing people familiar with the matter. However, China’s ministry had not publicly confirmed approvals by Sept. 27.

ByteDance was reportedly considering an order of about 1 million RTX Pro 5500 chips. Alibaba was also among the companies approached about potential purchases, the report said.

Nvidia’s product page described the RTX Pro 5500 as a Blackwell workstation graphics processor. The card carries 84 GB of GDDR7 memory and targets artificial intelligence inference, simulation, and professional graphics workloads.

Nvidia sagte the product supported rack-mounted workstation deployments and up to 600 watts of power. Those specifications positioned the chip below Nvidia’s highest-end data-center accelerators.

Nvidia News Meets a Restricted China Business

Nvidia’s latest regulatory filing showed how restricted China sales had become. The company said U.S. licenses allowed limited H200 shipments to selected Chinese customers.

However, Nvidia said Chinese restrictions prevented it from selling all licensed units. H200 shipments contributed less than 1% of second-quarter Data Center revenue.

The company also recorded a $400 million charge tied to H200 inventory and purchase obligations. Nvidia linked that charge to weaker demand under the restricted licensing program.

The filing also showed Nvidia previously received U.S. licenses for certain H20 products. Chinese restrictions still prevented the company from clearing its available inventory.

That history matters because Washington’s permission did not guarantee access inside China. RTX Pro 5500 sales therefore depend on Beijing’s conditions and U.S. export treatment.

Its second-quarter filing showed $7.88 billion in China and Hong Kong customer-headquarters revenue. That figure covered all Nvidia businesses, not only data-center computing.

Nvidia also excluded China Data Center compute revenue from its third-quarter fiscal 2027 outlook. The company forecast quarterly revenue of $108 billion, plus or minus 2%.

That guidance showed why any reopening could matter financially. Reported RTX Pro approvals would not restore unrestricted sales of Nvidia’s top accelerators.

NVDA Stock Holds Near Recent Highs

Yahoo Finance data showed NVDA stock closed at $225.07 on Sept. 25. Shares gained 0.22% during the session and remained up 20.68% year to date.

The stock traded within a 52-week range of $164.27 to $236.54. Its market capitalization stood near $5.44 trillion at the latest close.

Nvidia had already reported $96.2 billion in second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue. That represented 106% growth from the prior-year quarter.

Data Center revenue reached $89 billion, up 117% from a year earlier. Those results showed demand remained concentrated in artificial intelligence infrastructure outside restricted China sales.

A China reopening could broaden Nvidia’s addressable customer base. However, investors still lacked confirmed approval volumes, timing, and licensing terms.

Nvidia News Faces Broader AI Infrastructure Constraints

TrendForce projected global data-center power demand capacity at 490.7 gigawatts by 2030. It estimated grid-deliverable capacity at only 222.6 gigawatts.

That projection implied a roughly 268-gigawatt gap before on-site generation. TrendForce said artificial intelligence servers could drive 53.7% of data-center power demand by 2030.

The figures showed chip demand alone may not determine future deployment. Power access, grid connections, cooling, and capital spending could also limit installations.

For Nvidia, China represented a separate constraint tied to trade controls and domestic policy. Reported RTX Pro 5500 discussions suggested Beijing may permit selected purchases under controlled conditions.

The next verifiable catalyst is any formal Chinese approval or Nvidia disclosure on RTX Pro 5500 shipments. Nvidia’s next earnings date is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2026.
