Crypto News: Raiffeisen Expands Crypto Access With Bitpanda Across Europe

Points clés

  • Crypto news: Raiffeisen plans to offer digital asset purchases to about 18 million customers across Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Bitpanda will provide infrastructure as individual Raiffeisen network banks determine their local digital asset offerings.
  • The partnership follows an earlier Bitpanda integration with Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien in Austria.

Raiffeisen Bank International has partnered with Bitpanda to expand digital asset access across its Central and Eastern European banking network. The crypto news development could eventually cover approximately 18 million customers across Raiffeisen’s regional subsidiaries.

Bitpanda later detailed how the framework will operate. The companies plan a gradual rollout rather than introducing the service across every market simultaneously.

Under the agreement, Bitpanda Enterprise will provide the digital asset infrastructure supporting participating Raiffeisen network banks. However, each subsidiary will determine its products and launch schedule according to local regulatory and market requirements. The arrangement builds on an existing model already operating within Austria.

Raiffeisen Crypto Expansion Builds on Austria Model

The Raiffeisen crypto rollout follows an earlier collaboration involving Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien, known as RLB NÖ-Wien. Bitpanda a indiqué the Austrian regional bank became an early European Union bank offering customers crypto access through its existing banking environment.

That earlier integration allowed customers to access digital assets through their bank while Bitpanda supplied the supporting infrastructure. Subsequently, Raiffeisen Bank International and Bitpanda decided to extend that structure across a wider banking network.

Rather than connecting individual banks through separate arrangements, the new partnership creates a common framework for Raiffeisen subsidiaries. Bitpanda Enterprise will operate the underlying infrastructure supporting those integrations.

Meanwhile, individual network banks will retain control over their respective offerings. They will also decide when to introduce digital assets based on requirements within their markets.

The crypto news development therefore represents a broader version of the model already used by RLB NÖ-Wien. According to Bitpanda, the framework covers Raiffeisen’s operations across Central and Eastern Europe.

Bitpanda Provides Infrastructure Across RBI Network

Bitpanda Enterprise provides infrastructure that banks, fintech companies and financial platforms can integrate into their customer services. Under the Raiffeisen agreement, that infrastructure will support digital asset access through participating banking subsidiaries.

Notably, the companies do not plan one identical product across every country. Instead, the framework allows each Raiffeisen network bank to determine its services separately.

Local regulatory requirements will also influence how each subsidiary executes the Raiffeisen crypto rollout. Therefore, availability may differ between the markets covered by Raiffeisen Bank International.

Bitpanda described the partnership as an expansion from a single Austrian bank integration toward a group-wide framework. The infrastructure will cover different operating structures and regulatory requirements across the participating markets.

Moreover, customers will access the services through their existing banking relationships where their local Raiffeisen bank adopts the framework. The arrangement does not require every regional subsidiary to launch digital assets at the same time.

Bitpanda already supplies similar digital asset services to other financial institutions. Bloomberg noted that its banking partners also include Germany’s N26.

Raiffeisen CEO Prepares New Bank Strategy

The partnership also comes during an early period under Raiffeisen Bank International CEO Michael Hoellerer. The agreement represents one of the first major initiatives under his leadership.

Hoellerer is also expected to announce a new strategy for the banking group later this month. However, the information provided does not detail how the Raiffeisen crypto partnership will feature within that strategy.

For now, the companies have established the infrastructure framework that participating network banks can use for digital asset services. The rollout will proceed gradually across Raiffeisen’s Central and Eastern European subsidiaries.

Bitpanda said the structure could potentially reach approximately 18 million customers across the network. Meanwhile, each bank will determine when and how it introduces access based on its local conditions.

The latest crypto news agreement therefore extends the existing Austrian integration into Raiffeisen Bank International’s wider regional network. Bitpanda Enterprise will handle the supporting digital asset infrastructure as individual banks establish their respective offerings.
